This is a rare Kutani ware decorative object from early 20th century Japan.
The piece is fully ceramic, including the base, and bears the traditional “Kakufuku (角福)” mark, confirming it as a genuine Kutani ware work.
The exterior features rich Kutani-style overglaze enamels and gold, with vivid red, blue, green, and gilt decoration. At first glance, it appears to be a decorative ceramic object.
Its most distinctive feature is the peek-view (curiosity) design. Circular holes on the sides allow the viewer to look inside, where two small porcelain nude female figures are visible. This reflects Japan’s early modern curiosity culture and was intended for adult appreciation.
Kutani works with integrated ceramic construction and internal figurative sculpture are extremely rare.
